Do I have to be in recovery from substance use to work at The Phoenix?

No! We seek talented people who have a strong connection to our mission, whether this connection is direct (personal experience recovering from substance use) or indirect (experience supporting friends or family struggling with substances). We also welcome applicants who have experience with recovery in other areas, such as mental health and trauma.

How can I check the status of my application?

You will receive a thank you email upon submission of your application. Please be patient after this initial confirmation, as we often receive a large number of applicants. Once we’ve reviewed your materials, we’ll email letting you know whether you’ve been selected for further consideration. It is not necessary to call about status, as we respond to every applicant.

I applied for a position and never heard back.

We do our best to respond to every applicant. Please check your junk folder if you haven’t heard from us when you expect to, since our correspondence comes from an automated address which may be caught by spam filters.

How can I prepare for my interview?

Our interviews are casual and conversational. We want to get to know you, so please bring your authentic self! We’ll be asking for specific examples, so please avoid generalities; instead, share specific examples and circumstances. We’ll want to hear about your role in team efforts, not merely what the team achieved as a whole. We encourage all candidates to participate in one of our in-person, virtual, or on-demand programming options prior to interviewing.

How long does the interview process take?

We care about getting to know our candidates, so please expect a thorough interview process. We usually begin with a 20-30-minute phone call with one of our recruiters, followed by a video interview with the hiring manager. From here the candidate typically moves to one or more panel interviews, after which we schedule an in-person meeting. Depending on the role we may also invite the candidate to complete a prompt or participate in additional follow-up conversations.

What is appropriate attire for interviews?

Our staff often dress casually, so feel free to wear comfortable clothing to your interview.
